The AGWA Apprentice Awards were established to acknowledge excellence, reward dedication, and highlight the enormous contribution apprentices make to the businesses and communities they serve. By recognising outstanding achievement at both state and national levels, the awards reinforce the value of professional tradespeople and encourage the continued development of skills across our industry.
The program recognises apprentices across several categories, including the Rising Star Award, Commercial Apprentice Award, Residential Apprentice Award, and State Apprentice of the Year. Each state winner earns the opportunity to compete for the prestigious AGWA National Apprentice of the Year title through a rigorous assessment of practical and theoretical skills.
The competition this year
This year’s national competition brought together six exceptional apprentices who had already distinguished themselves as the best in their respective states. Hosted at North Metropolitan TAFE in Western Australia, the event showcased the high level of skill, craftsmanship, and professionalism being developed throughout the Australian glazing industry.

After an intense competition and assessment process, Michael Horstman of Western Australia was named the 2026 AGWA National Apprentice of the Year.
