Enclosed by three walls consisting of large panelled sliding doors, this rural property near Byron Bay maximises the opportunities to enjoy the sweeping rural aspect.

By using large panelled glass sliding doors to enclose the main living areas, this new home in rural Queensland has redefined the concept of open plan living. With three walls consisting of solely large glass doors, the eye can’t help but be drawn to the enviable rural views in every direction.

The residence is located in Ewingsdale, a former dairy farming area just 10 km from its well-known beachside neighbour, Byron Bay. The community consists of less than a thousand residents and a few hundred properties, most of which occupy large blocks of land which make the most of the rural aspect.

The glass-enclosed living area of this home looks out towards an outdoor water feature and swimming pool on one side, and sweeping countryside views on the other two sides. Alspec ProGlide High Performance Sliding doors were chosen and configured in a series of large stacking panels to create the glass facades. The heavy duty aluminium profile of the ProGlide doors is ideal for spanning such large spaces, as they can accommodate large panel widths which minimise vertical interruptions to the views.

Low emissivity or “low E” double glazed glass was selected for the ProGlide doors. This type of glass helps to improve the thermal efficiency of the home by reducing the amount of heat conducted through the glass, while also cutting down on glare and minimising the potential for furnishings to fade due to sunlight exposure.

Whether relaxing in the pool outdoors, or enjoying dining indoors, the design of this home has maximised the opportunity to enjoy the rural outlook from every location.
